Meet Our People

Mark Johannsson

Mark B. Johannsson, DHSc, MPH
Director of Clinical Services

Dr. Mark Johannsson brings more than two decades of research and clinical experience in public health and disease prevention to his role as director of clinical services for Kronos.

Before joining Kronos in 2005, he was chief executive officer of a national health promotion systems and consulting firm. He also served as bureau chief of the Maricopa County, Ariz., Health Promotion and Education Bureau, and then administrator of the Behavioral Risk Management/Wellness Services Division, where he oversaw public health programs as well as designed and implemented corporate wellness and ergonomic programs for the county’s 11,000 employees.

“I’ve had the privilege of working within the disease prevention arena for many years,” he says. “What I found at Kronos is an incredible level of commitment and understanding of the behavioral aspects in corporate wellness planning that is not often seen in health care organizations.”

This commitment meshes nicely with both his clinical role at Kronos and his personal wellness vision.

“My goal,” he says, “is to facilitate people’s understanding of their health and the realization of the control they actually have over their health outcomes.”

The father of three, Dr. Johannsson spends his leisure time consulting internationally  and volunteering in his local community.

“It’s important that my children understand what’s beyond their own backyard – that they’re members of a much larger and more diverse community,” he notes.

Dr. Johannsson served his master’s residency at Stanford University School of Medicine. He subsequently worked in the Stanford Center for Research in Disease Prevention and in the departments of cardiology and rheumatology, where he conducted behavioral research and provided clinical assistance to the Preventive Medicine Clinic at the university medical center.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Psychology, a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, and a Master of Public Health in Community Health, and a Doctorate of Health Science with a Clinical Generalist emphasis.
